70+ Years of Combined Experience: Teen, Young Adult, & Family Therapy & Also Providing Couples Counseling
At Katy Teen & Family Counseling, we specialize in teen therapy, young adult counseling, and family therapy. We also provide couples therapy and marriage counseling. There are differences between a specialist in mental health (as it relates to insurance) compared to specialists in physical health. For example:

Seeing a therapist is different than seeing a dentist, doctor, or other professionals who keep your medical records. When insurance companies request your private health information from a dentist to authorize treatment and reimbursement for the dentist, the information they would provide is not as sensitive.
When insurance companies request your private health information in order to authorize treatment and reimbursement for the therapist, they can gain access to your private, sensitive, personal information you relay to a therapist in your therapy session.

Also, insurance companies require therapists to add a psychiatric diagnosis to your medical record. A dentist will also add a dental "diagnosis" to your medical record. A psychiatric diagnosis(ses) can have a negative impact on your future unlike a dental "diagnosis".

The main reasons we choose not to accept insurance is to protect your private, personal therapy records and we do not feel comfortable adding a psychiatric diagnosis(ses) to your medical record.

We want to protect our clients from the unintended but real consequences of insurance companies gaining access to your private therapy records. Below are other reasons that we do not take insurance at Katy Teen & Family Counseling plus the rates for each of our therapists.

Insurance
Reasons We Do Not Take Insurance & How It Benefits You
1. Increases Your Choices & Options in Choosing a Therapist

Using insurance decreases your choices in therapists. Private pay increases your ability to choose the right therapist for your teen, young adult, family, or you as a couple.

Not using insurance leaves you in control of your care.

2. Many Insurance Companies Do Not Reimburse for Couples Counseling or Family Therapy.

Many insurance companies will not pay for couples therapy, marriage counseling, or family therapy.

3. Insurance Companies Require Pre-authorization

Insurance companies often request information pertaining to your treatment. They do this as they need to routinely assess whether or not they believe therapy is needed. Private pay keeps your information, private.

4. A Diagnosis on Your Medical Record Could Result in Denials of Insurance or Life Insurance.

When insurance companies review your medical record for risk when pursuing insurance or life insurance, clients can be denied to to a previous diagnosis in their medical record.

5. Loss of Employment/or Repercussions of a Diagnosis
There are times where it is necessary for a company to request medical records including therapy medical records. This could have an impact when applying for a job, financial aid, and/or concealed weapons permits.

6. A psychiatric diagnosis can be brought into a court case (i.e., divorce court, family law, criminal, etc.)

Attorneys can subpoena your therapy medical record. A diagnosis(ses) in your medical record could be used against you in court.

Out of Network: Superbills
Some insurance companies will partially or fully reimburse for "Out of Network" providers. The teen therapists, young adult counselors, family therapist, and couples therapists at Katy Teen & Family Counseling would be considered "Out of Network" providers.

We can provide you an invoice of itemized services, or a superbill, that you can submit to your insurance company. If they do work with out of network providers, they would reimburse you directly.
Deposit to Hold the First Session Date & Time
When calling in to schedule, in order to secure the initial session date and time for you, we require a non-refundable deposit. The deposit is simply the charge for the first session.
As we schedule your first appointment, we will ask for your payment information and charge in advance for the first session. This will block off that day and time for your initial session.

As the session has been paid up front, when you attend your session, there is no additional payment due.
