About Andrew: Teen & Young Adult Specialist
A Talented & Driven Teen Counselor, Young Adult Therapist, & Family Therapist
Hello! I’m Andrew Bienvenu, a licensed professional counselor associate dedicated to helping teenagers and young adults navigate their emotional and behavioral challenges.
With years of experience in various settings, I understand the unique struggles that come with adolescence, including issues like depression, anxiety, panic attacks, social anxiety, ADHD and other challenges.
My goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment where teens and young adults can express themselves freely and work towards healing.
Professional & Educational Journey
My time working with teenagers in professional settings started in 2012. My first major experience entailed 10 years of managing a camp with 50+ kids and teenagers, from ages 3 to 18. This allowed me to see vividly the differences between each age group. As time went on, I began to pursue other ventures such as teenager tennis programs and developed those for 5 years.
During college, I transitioned into the mental health field working in an inpatient facility for teenagers.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in psychology from LSU and my master’s degree in counseling from Regis College in Boston, Massachusetts where I developed a deep understanding of mental health issues that affect today's youth.
I continuously engage in professional development to stay updated on the latest research and techniques in the field of teen and young adult mental health. My education and training have equipped me with the skills to effectively support teens and young adults as they navigate the ups and downs of life.
In Boston, my professional work entailed helping to run a partial hospitalization program. This partial hospitalization program was designed for kids and teenagers where they would come after school and participate in individual, group, and family counseling.
I have also worked at another private practice before joining Katy Teen & Family Counseling.
Some challenges that I have particular strengths in helping teens and young adults overcome include:
-
Anger issues
-
Suicidal ideation
-
Self-harm behavior
-
Stress management
I now join Katy Teen & Family Counseling to continue what I consider my mission in life: providing teen counseling, young adult therapy, and family therapy to help teens and young adults overcome emotional or behavioral challenges.
There is no need for teens and young adults to struggle and suffer with these challenges. There is specialized help available to help. I would be happy to help your teen or young adult overcome their struggles while supporting you as parents along the way.
My Approach
I believe that every individual is unique, and therefore, I tailor my approach to meet the specific needs of each person I work with.
I utilize therapeutic approaches that are supported by research such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which have proven effective in managing emotional distress and improving coping skills.
My sessions are designed to help clients explore their thoughts and feelings, develop healthier patterns of behavior, and build resilience against life’s challenges.
Interests & Hobbies
When I’m not in the office, I enjoy spending time outdoors, reading, playing tennis, teaching tennis, and engaging in activities that promote wellness and mindfulness. I believe that a balanced lifestyle is essential for mental health, and I often share these interests with my clients to encourage them to explore their own passions and hobbies.
